Jaemin Jung is a professor at the Moon Soul Graduate School of Future Strategy and holds the Sohn Chang-Geun Endowed Chair Professorship at KAIST. His research centers on media management, media economics, and AI-driven transformation in journalism and the media industries, with particular focus on how algorithmic curation and generative AI are reshaping news production, distribution, and audience engagement. He was appointed Senior Vice President for Planning and Budget on July 27, 2026, having previously served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Convergence Science and Director of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences Research (2023–2025).
He has held administrative posts at KAIST since 2017, including Director of the Center for National Future Strategic Technology Policy (2022–2023), Dean of the Moon Soul Graduate School of Future Strategy (2020–2023), and Dean of the Graduate School of Information Media Management (2017–2019).
Before his doctorate, Jung worked as a television producer at Buddhist Television Network (1994–1995) and a journalist at Digital Chosun Ilbo (1996–1998). He earned his Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Florida (2003) and his B.A. and M.A. in Journalism and Communications from Sogang University. He held a faculty position at the University of West Florida (2003–2005) and Seoul Women's University in Seoul (2005–2009) before joining KAIST in 2009.
Jung has served as guest editor of special issues for Digital Journalism, Media and Communication, and the International Journal on Media Management, and as co-editor of the Handbook of Media Management and Economics. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Media Economics and Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, and has advised the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, KBS (Korean Broadcasting System), EBS (Educational Broadcasting System), and Google Korea's Digital Responsibility Committee.
Awards include the Award of Honor from the Journal of Media Economics (2023), the Robert Picard Book Award (2019), DBpia's Paper of the Year Award in interdisciplinary studies (2018), the KAIST Q Day Education Award and Trust Award (2025), the Best Lecture Award from the KAIST–National Assembly Executive Program for National Future Strategy (2013), and a Commendation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education of the Republic of Korea (2007).
