President Sung-Chul Shin met Colombian Ambassador to Korea Juan Carlos Caiza Rosero in his office on August 6. Their discussion focused on the vitalization of global interchanges on science and technology between KAIST and Colombia.

Ambassador Caiza Rosero said, “I paid this courtesy visit to learn about KAIST’s experiences and capabilities that contributed greatly to the growth of Korea’s economy and the advancements of its science and technology. I’d like to ask for KAIST’s understanding and support so that Colombia’s growth may be led with KAIST as a role model.”

“Colombia is located in the center of Central and South America, which makes it advantageous as a bridgehead if KAIST were to set out into Central and South America,” Ambassador Caiza Rosero suggested. He then added, “I hope to promote the Colombian president’s visit to KAIST during a future visit to Korea.”

To this, President Shin thanked Ambassador Caiza Rosero for his strong will and interest concerning the expansion of collaboration between the two nations. “Let’s work together to search for measures to expand global collaboration so that KAIST’s innovative capabilities and knowledge in science and technology may help the advancement of Colombia,” he answered.

This meeting was attended by Associate Vice President of the International Office Man-Sung Yim and Third Secretary Juan Sebastian Castellanos of the Embassy of Colombia in Korea.
