President Sung-Chul Shin met the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Korea H.E. Joanne Doornewaard who visited the KAIST Main Campus in Daejeon on November 5. Their discussion focused on the expansion of cooperation in the fields of science and technology between the two nations.
Ambassador Doornewaard thanked President Shin for his warm welcome and expressed hopes of expanding the cooperation between KAIST and Dutch institutes in education, research, and technology development, particularly with regard to the eco-friendly energy and environment fields.
To this, President Shin suggested that they search for ways to provide students and researchers with more opportunities through various forms of international exchanges, especially in celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations next year.
This meeting was attended by Associate Vice President of the KAIST International Office Man-Sung Yim, Senior Officer for Innovation, Technology and Science Peter Wijhuizen, and Senior Officer for Economic Relations Eun-Young Park of the Embassy of the Netherlands.
Ambassador Doornewaard was appointed as the Dutch Ambassador to Korea in September of last year, and before her appointment, she served as the Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the project manager of international energy relations at the Netherlands Ministry for Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation.
Two Dutch students are currently attending KAIST, and to date, 181 Dutch students have graduated from KAIST, including both full-time and exchange students. KAIST has also made agreements for academic and research cooperation with four universities in the Netherlands.
