President Sung-Chul Shin visited the Japanese Residence in Seoul on November 13 to take part in a banquet with Japanese Ambassador to Korea H.E. Tomita Koji.
President Shin thanked Ambassador Koji for the invitation and said, “Japan has produced a large number of Nobel Prize laureates and I hope there will be more opportunities for cooperation within the basic science fields with such a country.”
Ambassador Koji commented in return, “We see a bright future for Korea where many young people are choosing the path of science and engineering, and technology is developing fast,” and added, “We wish for active cooperation in research as well as exchanges of science and technology talents between KAIST and universities in Japan, as leading developers of national science and technology.”
They also shared their views on the need to expand international scientific cooperation for the sustainability of mankind and discussed ways to innovate eco-friendly energy to convert conventional fossil fuel-based energy systems.
President Shin was accompanied by Associate Vice President of the KAIST International Office Man-Sung Yim, Head Professor Sung-Min Choi, Professor Jong-Il Yoon, and Professor Yong Hoon Jeong of the Nuclear and Quantum Engineering Department at KAIST, and Professor Dong Soo Han from the KAIST School of Computing.
Minister for Economic Affairs from the Japanese Embassy Nishinaga Tomofumi and Minister Counsellor for Economic Affairs Kazumasa Takane also attended.
