Welcoming Remarks for the KAIST-Google Partnership Signing Ceremony

Good afternoon.
Thank you very much for joining us at today’s ceremony. I am very honored to be here today to sign this collaboration agreement with our distinguished partner, Google.
I would like to express my profound gratitude to all the collaborators from Google and KAIST who worked so hard to develop this agreement. In particular, I am very grateful to Prof. Euijong Whang, who has played a key role in making today’s agreement possible.
Google is a company that has reshaped the pathways of the global world. I would like to recognize the impressive effort and leadership Google has exhibited to make a positive impact on the global community, especially in the education sector. I am very excited to see the future we will make together.
This agreement offers an excellent opportunity to expand the educational and research collaborations between KAIST and Google, particularly placing a strong emphasis on computer science, including AI.
KAIST distinguishes itself through a culture of research and education that fosters intellectual creativity, challenging minds, and caring for others. Through your support, we will drive innovation, jumpstart creative ideas, and empower our students to succeed.
It is very timely and inspiring to sign this agreement with Google at this important time for KAIST. Under KAIST Vision 2031, a blue print for becoming a leading global university, we are revising our educational curriculum to reflect the new global economic environment. Particularly, we will open the AI Graduate School this fall to nurture AI specialists under the strong leadership of Prof. Song Chong.
KAIST was established in 1971 to educate the elite scientists and engineers urgently needed for the rapid industrialization of Korea. Korea’s phenomenal success in both industrialization and informatization has been fully backed by KAIST. Now, Korea is being called the powerhouse of ICT and KAIST has become a respected partner of Google.
We now feel a strong responsibility to fulfill our new institutional mission to foster global talents and our new vision to create economic value out of convergent knowledge, including AI, to benefit humanity.
Without a doubt, this partnership will serve not only to advance Korea’s global competitiveness in AI-powered industries, but also contribute to the global community by nurturing talents in this most extensive discipline. I will do everything possible to make this collaboration a success.
In closing, I look forward to watching our partnership grow and flourish in the coming years and produce future talents.
