Presidential Science Scholarship
Basis: The Presidential Science Scholarship Project is planned to be implemented starting during the 1st semester of 2013

100 graduates from domestic high schools (with Korean citizenship)
Supporting Details
- Period of Support: Up to 4 years (8 semesters) of the undergraduate program
- Awarded scholarship certificate in the president’s name
- Full scholarship for each semester
- Scope of acknowledgment of registration fees: Admission fee, school support fee (exclude other collected funds)
- Students selected from 2003~2008 receive 5,000,000 KRW of support per semester
- An additional 2,000,000 KRW per semester may be given as an academic incentive (if grade requirements are satisfied)
- An additional 1,800,000 KRW per semester, is given for living expenses if the student is a recipient of the basic living security
Scholarship Payment Method and Procedure
- Scholarship is given twice a year
- The scholarship will be given to the school and received by the student in the form of tuition reduction/exemption, and the support funding will be deposited into the student’s bank account by the school (For newly selected scholarship recipients, tuition reduction/exemption will take effect starting the 2nd semester)
- Scholarship is deferred when on leave of absence, and will resume upon returning to school (scholarship postponement not possible)
- Until the end of the fiscal year, the scholarship will not be carried over for the enrolled (or readmitted) students and affiliated university and shall be deemed paid
Scholarship Support Standards
- Standard for continuous scholarship support (grades acquired from the preceding regular semester)
- Domestic scholarship student: Above 87 percentile or an average GPA of 3.3/4.3 or above
- Standard for minimum credits acquired: at least 12 credits per semester (but more than 3 credits for seniors)
- The above standard for continuous scholarship support is applied starting from the 1st semester grades of 2012.
- No minimum credit requirement standards for exchange students
- Academic Support Fund
- Must have a 92 percentile from the preceding semester, or have a GPA of at least 3.7/4.3, but the academic support fund is given to all students during their entrance semester
- The application standard for students receiving continuous scholarship support and/or academic support fund is dependent on the acquired GPA of the relevant year
Disqualification from Scholarship Eligibility and Redemption Regulations
- If the GPA from the previous semester falls short of the requirement, scholarship will not given for the next semester, if the students fall short of the GPA requirement twice they will be disqualified from scholarship eligibility
- The student will lose their qualification as a scholarship recipient and the provided scholarship must be repaid immediately if a situation arises for their disqualification or redemption

National Academic Excellence Scholarship (Science and Engineering)
Basis: National Academic Excellence Scholarship Project (Science and Engineering) is to be implemented starting from the 1st semester of 2013
Scale of New Scholarship Recipients for 2013 (limited to areas other than the capital)
Scholastic aptitude test category 547 people, rolling admission category 931 people
The number of nominees from one university cannot exceed 20% of the total nominations (scholastic aptitude test category 109 people, rolling admission category 186 people)

<Selection Standard 1> Category for academic excellence on the College Scholastic Ability Test |
- For students with scores from 2013 on the National Scholastic Aptitude Test may apply without relation to the type of admission application.
- Tier One: Within 3rd class for the Mathematical Section “A” Type, within 2nd class + within 2nd class for science inquiry subjects (2 courses reflected) or within 2nd class (Science II) + within 3rd class
- Tier Two: If an applicant for Tier one falls short of the scale, additional selections are in order for the Mathematical Section “A” (within 3rd class) and Science Inquiry Section (2 courses reflected) within 2nd class + within 3rd class.

- Targets newly admitted students in 2013 through the rolling admission process
- If the completed math and science related courses (UP and AP included) during their entire high school career (all grades and semesters) have a scale rating of 24 or more units and is within the 6th class for science high schools, within the 2nd class for public high schools, and B or above for high schools for gifted students, the number of students allocated to universities depends on the proportion of the number of students admitted through rolling admission.
- A nominee from the category of academic excellence applying through rolling admission will be selected within the number of spots allocated for each university

Supporting Details
- Period of support: Up to 4 years (8 semesters) of the undergraduate program (until graduation if the student graduates early)
- Full scholarship for each semester
- Scope of acknowledged registration fees: admission fee (346,000 KRW), school support fee (1,656,000KRW) <exclude other collected funds>
- An additional 1,800,000 KRW per semester is given for living expenses if the student is a recipient of the basic living security (Limited to continuous support standards and qualification as a recipient of the basic living security)
- Limited to students who satisfy the qualifications set forth by the implementation plan for the year based on the continuous scholarship support standard and scholarship interim evaluation policy (2+2 policy)
- For scholarship recipients selected prior to 2005, additional funds for textbooks will be provided (1st class, 1,000,000 KRW per semester / 2nd class 500,000 KRW) (for those admitted in 2006, an additional 500,000 KRW per semester will provided for textbooks until graduation.

Scholarship Student Interim Evaluation (2+2 Policy)
Students who have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3/4.3 or at least an 87 percentile for 2 years or 4 semesters (including seasonal semesters and retaken courses) will be nominated to be supported for an additional 2 years (exclude those that have been disqualified from scholarships)
Disqualification from Scholarship Eligibility
- If the student falls short of the grade requirement twice within two years of enrollment (4 ~ 5 semesters) (those nominated by 2007, can fall short of the grade requirement 3 times until the time the student graduates)
- If the student falls short of the cumulative grade requirement for continuous scholarship support according to the Scholarship Student Interim Evaluation (2+2 Policy) (Applicable for scholarship nominees starting from 2008)
- After satisfying the above Scholarship Student Interim Evaluation (2+2 policy) standard, if the student falls short of the requirement once during the additional support for 2 years (junior and senior year) (applicable for scholarship nominees starting from 2008)
Repayment of Scholarship and Redemption Regulations
- If the student takes a leave of absence, the scholarship must be returned for the relevant semester
- If a student receives overlapping scholarships from other scholarships or tuition reduction through a national scholarship fund (science and technology), the student’s eligibility as a scholarship recipient will be withdrawn and the corresponding amount must be repaid.
- In the case of a withdrawal of expulsion, the student will lose their eligibility as a scholarship recipient and must return the scholarship (excluding cases if a student discontinues their study due to illness or natural disaster)

Scholarship Nomination
- Scholarship student nominations and recommendations will be made according to each foundation’s nomination criteria
- Priority is given to education expense scholarship recipients (excluding students receiving a large external scholarship payment)
- Loss of eligibility of National Scholarship (Natural Sciences and Engineering) and education expense scholarship if selected as a recipient of external scholarship
Scholarship Payment
- Scholarship provided based on the methods determined by each foundation
- If the scholarship provided is greater than the amount of school support fees, education expense scholarships are not provided
- If the scholarship provided is less than the amount of school support fees, duplicate provision is permitted (for National Scholarships (Natural Sciences and Engineering, only the difference will be provided))
- School support fees are not deducted from student fees because external scholarship and development fund scholarship foundations directly send the scholarship amount to the students
(students who wish for student fee deduction and fee deferment must request it at the Student Welfare Team)

Education Expense Scholarship
Scholarship Recipient Selection
- Undergraduate students who cannot receive the Presidential Science Scholarship, National Scholarship (Natural Sciences and Engineering) and external scholarships
- IT Management students are excluded from education expense scholarship candidacy
Scholarship Payment
- Payment period: Up to 8 semesters (students enrolled between 1~8 semesters receive scholarships every semester)
- During the first year of enrollment (2 semesters), students receive scholarships equal to the amount of school support fees regardless of academic performance
- In the 3rd semester, if the student has completed at least 12 credits and maintained a GPA of at least 3.0/4.3 in the previous semester, students will receive scholarships equal to the amount of school support fees (applied to students beginning in the Fall semester of 2011 for students enrolled after 2007, matters decided by the 4th 2011 Student Reward & Discipline Committee (August 16, 2011))
- Support for students enrolled before 2006
- Education expense scholarships provision, discontinued provision, scholarship redemption, and other standards will apply the same standards as the National Scholarship (Natural Sciences & Engineering)
- Provide scholarships if academic performance meets the standards of the National Scholarship (Natural Sciences & Engineering)
(Standard of the Spring semester of 2013: at least 3.13/4.3)
- Students who have lost scholarship eligibility will cease to receive scholarships
Support for Students in the Case of Education Expense Scholarship Recipients Receiving a National Scholarship (Type I)
- Principle: education expense scholarship is provided based on the difference of the scholarship amount of National Scholarships (Type I)
- Students receiving full support from National Scholarships (Type I) of school support fees as recipients of basic living security and the tier 1 income bracket do not receive separate support from education expense scholarships – students classified in tier 2 ~ 8 income brackets receiving partial support from National Scholarships (Type I) for school support fees will receive the difference in fees in the form of education expense scholarships
- Students classified in tier 2 ~ 8 income brackets receiving partial support from National Scholarships (Type I) for school support fees will receive the difference in fees in the form of education expense scholarships
