Medical Welfare SupportMedical Allowance Support

Promoting student health and well-being and supporting healthy academic performance through medical subsidy support

Target

All enrolled students(Except for leave of absence, non-leave of absence, exchange students, interns, audited students, etc.)

Payment Limit

  • Annual maximum of 3 million won (including on-campus injury treatment costs)
  • Annual maximum payment limit restrictions
    Annual: Spring semester start date ~ the day before the following spring semester start date

① Non-covered dental treatment costs: 200,000 to 300,000 won (including on-campus injury treatment costs)
② Non-covered rehabilitation-related treatment costs: Extracorporeal shock wave therapy, injections, nerve blocks, renal injection therapy, etc.
     Rehabilitation and similar physical therapy treatments: KRW 100,000 (manual therapy and Chuna therapy are excluded)
③ Non-covered hospital room difference payment standard (30% of the amount received): Up to KRW 50,000/day
     Treatment payment priority: On-campus injury treatment costs are given priority.
     (If the combined amount of on-campus injury treatment costs and disease treatment costs exceeds the limit, the excess amount already paid must be refunded.)

General Medical Welfare treatment department: Psychiatry, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Urology, Inpatient Treatment Fees (3 days or longer)
However, inpatient treatment fees (longer than 3 days) shall be in accordance with the payment limit standard for each treatment department.

* Students of the main campus & Seoul Campus Master's and Ph.D. program in College of Business(Except for leave of absence, non-leave of absence, exchange students, interns, audited students, etc.)
※ MBA/Master's degrees from the Department of College of Business Administration are excluded from universal health care coverage
However, full out-of-pocket expenses and basic examination fees (if more than 50% is covered) are considered non-covered treatment expenses.

Applying by online : KAIST portal > Academic Affairs > Medical/Checkup > Medical Assistance Fee Application

Other unsupported treatments(Non-covered items by NHI)

① Purchases of products in every hospital / medical institution
② Other costs arising outside of medical institution such as braces and guards
③ Cosmetic treatments
④ Non-covered treatments by NHI from Plastic surgery and Dermatology of external hospitals
⑤ Vision correction treatments(Lasik, Lasek, squint eye correction, lenses, etc.)
⑥ herbal medicine table and medicinal acupuncture in oriental medicine clinic, obesity treatments, skin disease(eczema, hair loss, etc) and other cosmetic treatments etc.
⑦ Other vitamins, hormonal therapy, injections, drugs etc. for boosting energy or recovery from fatigue
⑧ Adult vaccination fee(However, 30% of the cost of tetanus inoculation due to the rise of KAIST Clinic is supported.)
⑨ Health check ups and other test fees arising during health check ups
⑩ Treatment for Varicose vein, Liposuction, Osmidrosis, Snoring(Polysomnograpy, sleep apnea syndrome), Gynecomastia and Stem cell therapy
⑪ Among rehabilitation-related treatment expenses, manual therapy and acupuncture treatment expenses
⑫ Basic examination fee processed as uncovered treatment fee, other tests conducted without basic examination fee, etc.
     (excluding dental, mental health clinics, rehabilitation and physical therapy)
⑬ Medical expenses supported by injuries and industrial accidents (non-overlapping payment with injury treatment expenses
⑭ Treatment for which 3rd parties are liable such as traffic accidents (including electric kickboards) and battery injuries
⑮ Treatment expenses incurred since NHI subscriber has received medical treatment by converting to a general patient at his/her own choice
⑯ Other examination fees without doctor's opinion, non-payment meals, and various expenses unrelated to medical treatment (including fees)
⑰ Tax on treatment fee and discounts applied to treatment costs for various reason(including insurance coverage)
⑱ medical and medical expenses incurred abroad
⑲ Card receipts, sales receipts, simplified bills etc. cannot be accepted.
⑳ Treatments expired 90 days since its payment date (Must be applied within 90days)

① Among rehabilitation-related treatment expenses, manual therapy and acupuncture treatment expenses
② Some Selective Benefit Items (if determined to be ineligible after review of additional documentation)
