Exhibition of Investment Demonstration on EEWS Research Held
- Five winners of business-planning project exhibition hold exhibition towards thirteen Angel Investors.
Venture capital firm and industry investors are investing for themselves on the Green Growth Project of KAIST, which strives for solutions of global issues, such as; energy depletion, environment pollution and sustainable development.
KAIST awarded the winner of "EEWS business-planning exhibition competition" and held investment demonstration exhibition. The exhibition is opened by the winners of the competition and held towards the firms and inventors encouraging capital on green business project and green technologies.
The venture capital firms that participated in this exhibition were; Coolidge Corner Investment, Dae-Duk Investment Corp, KPM, Locus Capital Partners and Bo-Gwang Investment.
The industry investors that participated were: Samsung C&T Corp, Cheil Industry, Dasan Networks, Hanhwa L&C, thirteen companies in total.
The goal of EEWS Exhibition is to encourage the commercialization of research and development. It was co-hosted by DFJ Athena LLC and Ilshin ventures. The competition was divided into business planning section and business technology section.
Grand prize on green growth went to Professor Joong-Myeon Bae who suggested "Eco-friendly hydrogen fuel cells", runner-up prize went to "Real-time measuring of NOx on Eco-friendly diesels" by Jin-Su Park, the technology director of CIOS.
Grand prize of green technology went to "Highly-refractive, heat resisting hybrimer LED sack’ by Byung-Su Bae, professor of new material engineering, participation award went to ‘ITO-Free touch screen for smart phone’ by Min-yang Yang, professor of the department of Mechanical Engineering.
A representative of KAIST said those of the firms and investors who have gone through commercialization showed interest on the creativity and the high level of the product.
Jae-Kyu Lee, the head of EEWS who supervised the whole exhibition mentioned that, "EEWS Planning Group is consistently going to come up with innovative results” and that “Angel Investors showed enthusiasm. The representatives of Venture capital firm even considered participating as the jury of the competition in the future.”

EEWS stands for Energy depletion, Environment pollution, Water shortages and Sustainability, a project for the solution of such global issues promoted by KAIST.

Professor Choi Han Lim receives Automatica Applications Paper Price
Professor Choi Han Lim of the Department of Aerospace received ‘Automatica Applications Paper Prize’ for the first time ever for a Korean.
Professor Choi published a paper in the Automatica magazine with the topic of ‘Continuous Trajectory Planning of Mobile Sensors for Informative Forecasting’.
Professor Choi dealt with most efficient measuring methods for mobile sensor platforms thereby improving the performance of anticipating environmental changes and proposed key theories for problem solving and also an efficient algorithm.
The research was conducted in cooperation with MIT Department of Aerospace Professor Jonathan How with the support of the National Science Foundation.

Journal published by the International Federation of Automatic Control and has been awarding the Automatica Paper Prize every three years.

KAIST 40th Anniversary Planning Student Committee Formed
Undergraduate students of KAIST formed the 40th Anniversary Planning Student Committee in order to introduce the students" perspective to the upcoming festivities and programs.
The Student Committee has several key aims:
1) The Committee aims at funding and cooperating with other clubs and club initiated events around KAIST and coordinating them to take on a 40th Anniversary theme and plan events on a grander scale than before.
2) Instil a greater sense of togetherness and pride for the KAIST institute and the various contributions and achievements it has made to both the domestic and international society.
3) Create a supporters group to, again, advertise the importance of KAIST"s achievements in the past 40 years and the significance of KAIST turning 40.
The Student Committee is run under the Student Government and is led by Kang Soo Young and Jin Soo Geul.

A graduate-level education for working professionals in science programs and exhibitions will be available from mid-August this year.
The Graduate School of Culture Technology (GSCT), KAIST, has created a new course for professionals who purse their career in science programs and exhibitions, which will start on August 19 and continue through the end of November 2010. The course will be held at Digital Media City in Seoul.
The course, also co-sponsored by National Science Museum, will offer students tuition-free opportunities to brush up their knowledge on the administration, policy, culture, technology, planning, contents development, and technology & design development, of science programs and exhibitions. Such subjects as science contents, interaction exhibitions, and utilization of new media will be studied and discussed during the course. Students will also have a class that is interactive, engaging, and visual, as well as provides hands-on learning activities.
A total of 30 candidates will be chosen for the course. Eligible applicants are graduates with a B.S. degree in the relevant filed, science program designers and exhibitors, curators for science and engineering museums, and policy planners for public and private science development programs.

KAIST-Oracle Korea agrees on industry-academy cooperation
- To establish ERP systems throughout the entire fields of KAIST to provide advanced education and research services
- To perform Joint R&D in the field of ubiquitous- Agreement signed at KAIST on April 5
KAIST (President Nam-Pyo Suh) and Oracle Korea (President Sam-Soo Pyo) signed an agreement on the industry-academy cooperation program for the establishment and joint researches of advanced education services system on April 5 at 11 am.
KAIST and Oracle Korea will establish an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system ‘ORACLE People Soft (PSFT) Campus Solution’ at KAIST. ‘PSFT Campus Solution’ refers to a university-oriented ERP system dominating world market share and will be introduced to KAIST for the first time among Korean universities. The establishment of ERP system and next-generation web services throughout KAIST will enhance KAIST’s management abilities over education and research, thereby making possible the offering of advanced education services. The both also agreed to promote joint researches in the field of ubiquitous.
Major cooperation items are ▲ the establishment and operation of ERP systems, ▲ the creation of advanced education services model for universities in Korea and East Asia and the setting-up of foundation for standard information services, ▲ the exploration of and participation in joint concerns, ▲ the establishment of joint information association for the exchanges of science and technology information, ▲ joint researches and development projects by the both parties, and ▲ education and training for the advancement of education institutes.
“The cooperation with world-class IT corporate Oracle can produce significant fruits of human power fostering and technology development in advanced fields,” KAIST President Nam-Pyo Suh said.
“The industry-academy cooperation by Oracle having a variety of world’s top IT technologies and KAIST will be a stepping stone for the advancement of domestic education institutes. I’ll devote myself to developing the models of state-of-the-art universities in the 21st century via close mutual cooperation,” said Sam-Soo Pyo, President of Oracle Korea.
